€650,000 investment brings festive magic to Valletta this Christmas
The Valletta Cultural Agency invites everyone to celebrate Christmas in the Capital 2025, a festive season that fills Valletta’s streets and squares with joyful festive spirit from the 25th November until the 31st December.
The programme features the cherished traditional procession with Baby Jesus around the streets of Valletta accompanied by a live choir, live concerts by Klinsmann, Kevin Paul, The New Victorians and Riona, roaming performances by Tikka Banda, interactive activities for children, a choral performance by the prestigious Cappella Musicale Caeciliana Choir at the Jesuit Church Oratory, and the massive annual New Year’s Eve celebrations, making Valletta the heart of Malta’s Christmas celebrations.
These events, which span across the entire month of December, will happen against a backdrop of colourful lighting and decorations, with new additions being made this year as part of the Valletta Cultural Agency’s investment for the Christmas season in Valletta, including a brand new Christmas tree designed by local and international sensation Henry Galea. The New Year’s Eve celebrations will also be growing in size, featuring international star John Newman and a spectacular Grand Harbour fireworks display, organised in collaboration with Visit Malta.
Christmas in the Capital officially kicks off on the 25th of November at 18:00, as the Christmas lights are switched on for the first time by local radio hosts Jamie and Taryn. The new Christmas tree will also be unveiled on the day, to the sound of a choral performance by Centrestage choir in Freedom Square.
“Christmas in Valletta is a truly special time, when culture, tradition, and joy come together to create a unique experience,” said Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici. “Through Christmas in the Capital 2025, we are continuing to strengthen our cultural identity and create spaces where people can come together to enjoy, reflect, and celebrate the spirit of Christmas. This investment reflects the Government’s steadfast commitment to ensuring that Valletta remains a vibrant hub of artistic and cultural activity — one that brings happiness to Maltese families and to all those who visit our country during this festive season.”
“Valletta comes alive with light, music, and community spirit at Christmas,” said Jason Micallef, Chairman of the Valletta Cultural Agency. “This year, the Valletta Cultural Agency has invested €600,000 in Christmas in the Capital, including the organisation of the National New Year’s Eve Celebrations, to ensure that Valletta leaves its mark as Malta’s festive heart. Through this programme, we are not only celebrating tradition but also creating new memories that bring people together in the heart of our city.”
The Baby Jesus Procession returns on the 18th December, starting from Our Lady of Victories Church in Castille Square at 6:00 pm. This heartwarming event gathers families and communities together in a candle-lit procession celebrating the nativity, accompanied by hymns and live music.
On the 23rd December, the Cappella Musicale Caeciliana will perform at the Jesuit Church Oratories in Archbishop Street, offering an evening of sacred music and a moment of serenity and reflection from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Christmas in the Capital 2025 also offers a variety of activities for all ages. Children can enjoy mingling with Santa’s Elves and send letters to Santa in St George’s Square and around Valletta, as well as attend a Gootopia workshop at the Valletta Design Cluster where they can have fun with slime.
