Details about two flagship events of national importance on Valletta’s cultural calendar, the Valletta Green Festival 2026 which will be the largest edition since the Valletta Green Festival started to be organised in 2014.
A new highlight of this year’s Valletta Green Festival will be a large floral installation at City Gate and in front of Parliament. This will lead visitors to the fantasy garden in St George’s Square, from 30 April to 10 May 2026.
Later, the much-anticipated concert L-Aqwa 20 tal-Maltin will take place in St George’s Square on 30 May 2026. The concert features 20 classic Maltese songs from 1975 to 2005, as voted for by the public last year.
The Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici said, “These events continue to enrich Valletta’s cultural life, offering a space where the community can come together to enjoy and appreciate both natural beauty and our musical heritage. The Valletta Green Festival and L-Aqwa 20 tal-Maltin celebrate Maltese identity and bring people together.”
“These two flagship events on Valletta’s cultural calendar continue to underscore the vital role of culture in shaping a more sustainable future. They offer a meaningful and engaging platform to bring people together, placing focus on what truly matters especially our environment and the holistic regeneration of our economy, society, and cultural identity,” said Jason Micallef, Chairman of the Valletta Cultural Agency.
The Valletta Green Festival 2026 will once again turn the capital into a living garden. Renowned for its visually striking installations and strong environmental message, the festival will focus on sustainability, urban greening, and community engagement.
Visitors will be able to experience a beautiful interactive garden, numerous educational initiatives, a diverse programme designed to encourage eco-conscious living and a daily Eco Market along Old Theatre Street, will feature sustainable, locally made products. Free face painting and children’s workshops including pebble art and upcycled crafts takes place on the 1st, 2nd,3rd, 9th and 10th May, between 11am and 2pm. This year’s programme includes participation by Derek Garden Centre, ERA, Project Green, Ambjent Malta, Circular Economy Malta, Wasteserv.
Alongside this, L-Aqwa 20 tal-Maltin was presented as a vibrant showcase of Malta’s most beloved music, celebrating the songs and artists that have shaped the nation’s cultural soundtrack. The 20 most popular songs will be performed live in concert by some of the most established local singers accompanied by an orchestra under the direction of Maestro Paul Abela. L-Aqwa 20 tal-Maltin features an extraordinary lineup of Maltese talent including Jasmine, Sarah Bonnici, Daniel Cauchi, Mike Spiteri, Mary Rose Mallia, Brooke, MARA, Fabrizio Faniello, Georgina, Gillian Attard, Ludwig Galea, Mark Spiteri Lucas, Priscilla Psaila, Ivan Grech, Hermann Bonaci, Mary Spiteri, Ryan Hili, Olivia Lewis and Klinsmann.
Both events are expected to attract wide audiences and further establish Valletta as a hub for cultural and environmental initiatives.
