Valletta Cultural Agency Presents Verdi’s Requiem this November

This significant production will feature the prestigious Chorus of Rome’s Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, comprising 60 choristers, who will be joined by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and KorMalta, under the direction of internationally renowned conductor Pier Giorgio Morandi.

The Valletta Cultural Agency is delighted to announce a performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem on the 23rd of November at 7:30pm at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. First performed 150 years ago, Verdi’s Requiem stands as one of the most revered choral works in classical music.  It was composed in memory of Italian poet Alessandro Manzoni, and is celebrated for its dramatic power and emotional depth.

Verdi’s Requiem will also feature an outstanding lineup of soloists which includes soprano Anna Pirozzi, a familiar face in Europe’s most prestigious opera houses, such as Covent Garden’s Royal Opera House, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the Vienna Staatsoper, the Paris Opera, and La Fenice in Venice, among others.  Pirozzi will be joined by Maltese mezzo-soprano Marvic Monreal, who last year debuted at the Royal Opera House and more recently starred in a performance of Dvorak’s Stabat Mater with the Berlin Philharmonic, and established Maltese tenor Alan Sciberras, who in recent years has sung roles in opera productions in Italy and in the Maltese islands, as well as performing in Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.  The bass role will be sung by Swedish bass-baritone John Lundgren, internationally renowned for his dramatic voice synonymous with the operatic roles of Scarpia in Puccini’s Tosca, Pizzaro in Beethoven’s Fidelio, and several roles in Wagner’s Ring Cycle.

This event presents a unique opportunity for music lovers to experience Verdi’s Requiem performed by some of the finest artists in the world.
