Open-air concert Opera in the Capital returns

On 6th September, Opera in the Capital 2025 transforms Valletta’s St George’s Square into a grand stage for an open-air concert featuring Malta’s top tenors Alan Sciberras and Cliff Zammit Stevens, versatile vocalist Nadine Axisa and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. Expect a powerful mix of opera, film scores, and musical theatre in an unforgettable night of music.

On Saturday 6th September, Valletta comes alive with Opera in the Capital 2025 — a spectacular open-air concert in the iconic St George’s Square, promising a powerful evening of music that blends opera, film scores, musical theatre, and crossover favourites.

Leading the night are three of Malta’s most compelling voices: acclaimed tenors Alan Sciberras and Cliff Zammit Stevens, alongside versatile vocalist Nadine Axisa. Their performances will be brought to life by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Ryan Paul Abela.

Valletta Cultural Agency Chairman, Jason Micallef together with the Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici, announced this event at St George’s Square, in Valletta, during a press conference this morning.

The Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici said, “Opera in the Capital is a celebration of music and Valletta’s rich cultural heritage. Audiences will enjoy a unique musical experience through selected operatic excerpts, set against the stunning, historic backdrop of the city’s architecture. This unforgettable evening continues to bring Valletta to life as a vibrant cultural hub.”

Valletta Cultural Agency Chairman Jason Micallef said, “Opera in the Capital 2025 marks the fifth edition of this much-loved concert series, following the remarkable success of past years. It’s one of many high-quality events the VCA brings to the heart of Valletta — a celebration of the city’s beauty and a response to the growing demand for open-air cultural experiences. With limited seating available, I encourage the public to secure their spot early.”

Opera in the Capital is more than a concert — it’s a celebration of powerful voices and timeless music that transcends genre and generation.

The programme celebrates timeless music across genres — from operatic masterpieces like Nessun Dorma, Ah! Lève-Toi Soleil, and Kuda Kuda, to iconic film classics such as Sè (Cinema Paradiso) and Parla Più Piano (The Godfather). It also features musical theatre favourites including Come What May (Moulin Rouge) and New York, New York, alongside popular crossover hits like Caruso and Quando Quando.
