CINEMA CITY: Calling all Cinephiles!

Are you interested in film? Do you enjoy outdoor film screenings? Have you always wished to be involved in the selection of what films should be shown? If yes, then this might be the project for you!

Guided by the Be Spectactive initiative (https://www.bespectactive.eu/) again this year, the Valletta Cultural Agency is inviting audience members to play an active role in the programming of the film screening event, Cinema City. How? Help us choose which movies are being screened!

How does it work?

• Participants will be invited to an orientation day[1] at the Valletta Design Cluster at the end of January. After this meeting, they will have between February 2023 and end April 2023 to watch movies from the comfort of their own home, with a few special screenings at the Valletta Design Cluster. They will be invited to participate in meetings[2] with the group, to narrow down the selection to the 4 movies which will be screened at the public event.

Who can apply?

• Anyone who has reached 18 years of age at the time of application.
• Anyone with access to internet and a DVD or Blu-Ray player.

Deadline for submissions: Monday 16^th January 2023, 17:00hrs (Malta time). Late applications will not be considered.

We are looking for a group of not more than 20 people to join the team and help us select the 4 movies to be shown in June 2023. This is a fun opportunity to create new forms of interaction and create a comfortable virtual space of dialogue about your passion in movies.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

• An orientation meeting will be held at the end of January at the Valletta Design Cluster so all the participants can meet and decide how they wish to tackle this task. The meeting will also outline how the feedback on each movie is to be collected and how these will be shared between the group.
• The participants of each group will be asked to watch a number of movies between February 2023 and April 2023 from the comfort of their own home, with a few special screenings at the Valletta Design Cluster
• At the end of each month, the group of participants will come together for a 3-hour online session for an open discussion about the movies watched until four movies are selected from the initial list.

HOW WILL PARTICIPANTS BE ABLE TO WATCH THE MOVIES?

• Most shortlisted movies are available on popular streaming services available in Malta. Each participant will therefore be provided with a temporary subscription to one such service to be able to watch the movies paid by the VCA.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING CINEMA CITY?

Cinema City will be taking place in Laparelli Gardens in June 2023. This will be a series of seated outdoor cinema screening events which will be free of charge to audiences. Seating and access will obviously depend on the regulations in force at the time from the Health Department.

During the actual screening events, the participants will enjoy a number of reserved seats in a preferential area for each screening, and will be invited to join in the launch of the event with a guest.
