Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnci and Valletta Cultural Agency Chairman Jason Micallef marked the commencement of the Christmas in the Capital programme this evening by switching on the annual Christmas lights in Republic Street and Merchants Street.
In addition, a Christmas tree in front of Parliament and a crib set up in St John’s Square were inaugurated. Moreover, a music video featuring an original Christmas song was also unveiled. The celebration also included a short performance by the Travellers, Michela, Ira Losco, and Gianluca Bezzina.
The programme includes various festive events lined up till the 31st of December.
These include the traditional Baby Jesus procession, children’s workshops at the Valletta Design Cluster and pop-up events by Dancel Dance Studio, stilt walkers, musical choirs and concerts by famous groups and singers including Centrestage Children’s Choir, Sean & Veronique, RIONA, Opening Doors, EnKor, Malta School of Music, KorMalta, Choral and Orchestral Society Maria Bambina and others.
