{"id":25614,"date":"2022-10-21T04:15:21","date_gmt":"2022-10-21T04:15:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vca.gov.mt\/?p=25614"},"modified":"2022-11-02T07:07:07","modified_gmt":"2022-11-02T07:07:07","slug":"infrastructures-of-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vca.gov.mt\/en\/blog\/infrastructures-of-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Infrastructures of Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"blog-text\" data-v-4b28e525=\"\">\n<p>Laura Besan\u00e7on\u2019s photographic and sculptural intervention \u2018Infrastructures of Care\u2019 contemplates exchange between humans, man-made structures, non-human communities and surrounding landscapes. Drawing upon aspects related to development, care and co-existence, this work focuses mainly on the cats that live in St Charles Street and the Bi\u010b\u010berija area, in the context of the Old Abattoir \u2013 the current Valletta Design Custer \u2013 and in the context of the building the ex-slaughterhouse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was very interesting to see how these communities maneuver through architectural space,\u201d Laura Besan\u00e7on says. \u201cI decided to re-appropriate human materials \u2013 building materials, human structures, and objects such as the \u2018turtiera\u2019 (the tray that was used in ovens) \u2013 for the use of the non-human communities to suggest a kind of symbiosis and co-existence between both kinds of communities, both human and non-human\u201d.<br \/>\nBesan\u00e7on is becoming increasingly interested in producing public artworks as she feels it becomes part of our everyday life fabric.<\/p>\n<p>This intervention reflects on one of the nine curatorial themes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vca.gov.mt\/mt\/blog\/fuse\">fuse<\/a>, Symbiosis which deals with the change in urban life. The significant developments caused by the regeneration of any area inflict changes to structures, demographics and use of space.
